Keep Hair Healthy with Good Habits

Whether you’ve gotten a haircut, blowout, hair color refresh, or any one of our William Robert Salon services, you wish your hair would stay that perfect until your next appointment. While we cannot do your hair daily, there are some great ways for you to keep your hair looking healthy and manageable between salon visits.

Increase the days between shampoos. The average person shampoos their hair more often than they need to. Every time you shampoo, some of your hair’s natural oils are stripped from your strands. Those natural oils are what keeps your hair naturally moisturized, soft, and manageable. We recommend to our clients that shampooing may only need to be done two to three times a week for most hair types. Ask your stylist about what is best for you. If you feel like you need something in between those shampoo days, you can use a dry shampoo to keep your hair feeling and smelling fresh.

Use conditioner regularly. Hair needs conditioning to supplement your natural oils to keep your hair hydrated, soft, and manageable. Whether your hair is dry, oily, or somewhere in between, you should invest in a high-quality conditioner formulated for your hair type. A leave-in conditioner can be used for those days you don’t shampoo. When your hair is well-conditioned, your hair will be softer and easier to style, and it can help your hair color look more vibrant.

Use the correct brush. Using the right styling tools are important for healthy-looking hair. There are many types of brushes available, but boar bristle brushes are highly ranked because their natural bristles are easy on your tangles and gentle on your hair, so there is less breakage. By brushing, you are distributing natural oils throughout your hair, so it’s important to do it gently so that your hair remains strong and healthy.

Reduce the heat. Heat tends to dry out your hair, including heat from styling tools and the temperature of water in which you rinse your hair. When rinsing your hair, turn down the heat to prevent your hair from drying out. To reduce hair damage with styling tools, ask your stylist which tools are best to use, turn down the heat on your regular styling tools, try to use them less, or apply a heat protectant before styling.

Schedule regular appointments. Before your leave William Roberts, schedule your next appointment to keep your hair looking perfect with any trims, color touch-ups, and hair treatments to ensure your hair stays healthy.
